Things To Put On Your Moving Checklist
Posted on 07/07/2015
There are plenty of important things to consider during a house move, but during the hectic time of moving house, it’s very easily to overlook one or two key aspects of the process. Being organised and efficient in your planning and preparations should stand you in good stead for your upcoming move, so follow these hints and tips so that you can begin the process of ticking things off your checklist.
1. Don’t leave booking a removal company until the last minute.
Make sure that you do your research and book a moving company well before your actual moving date. Leaving everything until the last minute could end up becoming a real disaster because it could leave you with no company at all, or possibly even worse, an inexperienced company that delivers you with a substandard service. So leave yourself plenty of time to get things sorted.
2. Don’t be fooled by the low prices that some companies will advertise for their services.
If you see a removal service being offered at what you think to be a ridiculously low price, trust your intuition because you’re probably right and there’s probably a reason for that. It’s always worth paying a little bit more if you want to be delivered a quality service, so keep this in mind when going about your research.
3. Packing materials.
Packing is a very important part of the house removals process. It’s not as simple as just bunging everything into a few boxes and taping them shut. You’ve got to spend a little bit of time and effort when packing to minimize the likelihood of any breakages to your possessions whilst they’re in transit. Getting the right packing supplies and materials is key to the success of the process. You shouldn’t have any problems getting yourself lots of packing materials at a reasonable price. They should be readily available from most of the companies in the industry, so when you’re booking the services for moving day, be sure to ask the company about their packing services, because if you hire multiple services or bulk buy your materials, you could bag yourself a discount.
4. Get the company around for a visit.
If you’ve booked with a professional, well reputed company, it should be a given that the company will send someone round to evaluate the size of the job and give you a price estimate. You can only do so much by email and phone, so make sure someone from the company visits your property before moving day.
5. Ask the company if they’ll be providing any additional materials to protect your items during the move.
Again if you’ve booked with a specialist company, they’ll almost definitely have some form of protection to package and secure your items for the move whilst they’re in the back of their van. Most top notch companies will provide blankets, extra padding and straps and cords to hold down and secure some of your possessions. But not all companies will provide you with additional materials, so be sure to ask because if not, you can take the appropriate measures to pack your items more securely and give them more padding and protection.
6. Know what you’re paying for!
When you hire a company, ask them if you’re paying for the actual service, if you’re going to be paying them by the hour, or both. If you end up paying for the service by the hour, ask the company what will happen if the job takes longer than expected, if there’ll be any extra charges etc.
