Make Moving Fun

There is nothing more stressful than moving house. Just the idea of it brings to mind backache and unexplained bruises popping up here and there the next day. Never mind weeks of toe stubbing clutter. Whether you are doing small removals or large, grueling, furniture removals, there are a few simple steps to turn it into a fun occasion, rather than a body aching nightmare. 1.    Throw a moving party. It may sound unusual, but if you provide the beer, wine and pizza, people are sure to come. Use your friends as cheap removals: if there are enough of you, it will feel like no work at all. Take breaks in between to enjoy food and drinks, or promise your friends a beer at the end of the move. Most people will be happy to help as they know it will be worth it for when they next move, you might find you begin a tradition.2.    De-clutter your life. Moving is a great excuse to have a good clear out. Try on all your old clothes and figure out if you really will wear them again. If you haven’t used something in six months or more, decide if you really need it. Get post-it notes at the ready to help you decide. A new fresh start is perfect to refresh your life, make sure you do it with a smile.3.    Put on some upbeat music. It sounds simple, but music can really alter your mood. Packing and unpacking goes much faster if you are enjoying yourself, it will make you more productive and if you are moving out you don’t have to worry about upsetting the neighbours! 4.    Give yourself plenty of time. Start early and get organized, create a moving checklist. It’s never too soon to make piles. A ‘going to charity pile’, a ‘needs to be unpacked first pile’ a ‘second opinion pile’. It’s much better to take your time and don’t rush, you don’t want to hire an expensive, last minute moving company and pile everything in. Take your time to look into cheap removals. 5.    Try to time your move on a weekend. There will be more hands available to help on weekends. Always be the first to jump in and help anyone with their move so they are willing to return the favor. Many, happy to help, hands will make your relocation smoother.6.    Go to a car boot sale. Sell your old things that you don’t want anymore, there is no point of going to the trouble of moving them if you are not keeping them. Make a day of it and bring your friends, you can treat them after with your earnings. 7.    If someone you know has a car, ask them to bring it and offer to pay the petrol money. You can move small stuff that way, or light bulky items like pillows and duvets. For larger stuff, hire a moving van, but get your friends along for the ride. Ask if there is anything they need moving while you have the van, any furniture they always wanted to get, but couldn’t pick it up, If you are helpful, your friends will be too. Make good use of the removal services you use.8.    Finally take breaks, if it’s too much to handle then give yourself a deadline on what to get done. Then watch your favorite program and promise yourself you will resume after, or first thing the next day. Get it done early so you can feel settled and happy in your new home.
