Moving With Your Children - 5 Points

Posted on 28/08/2014

Having children is a bit of a full time job, and moving house can feel the same way. If you are currently thinking about a domestic removal with the children in tow, then you will no doubt be a little concerned for your sanity. There is plenty to worry about, but there are also plenty of ways in which you can solve these issues, so don’t let the stress get to you and allow it to ruin the domestic relocation that you have dreamed of! As a start, you need to think about the way in which the removal will get in the way of your interaction with your kids. You will find that there are plenty of ways in which the removal will stress you out, and need your undivided attention, but the fact of the matter is that you can’t let it detract from the time that you spend with your children. Make sure that you split the time spent on the removal with your other half, and if necessary, have a family member or friend who can baby sit when you need them to. Using a friend or relative rather than a less well known baby sitter will ensure that the kids don’t feel like it is as much of a difference. The safety of your children ruing a removal is a big deal as well. When you are packing boxes, you can have things like pens, scissors, string, tape and bubble wrap around. If these packing supplies are left out and you are distracted by the packing process, then the kids can get hold of them and things can get pretty dangerous. Similarly, if the house is full of movers, shifting heavy furniture and boxes about, you will find that the kids can become a massive hazard if they are running about underfoot! Wen walking backwards, or carrying large removal boxes, the removals team may not see them and things can get pretty deadly!Having distractions and things to keep the children happy during a removal will be a big part of making it easier on yourself. You will find that you can pack a bag or a box full of favorite films and cartoons on a portable DVD player, alongside some favorite toys, blankets, food and games, so that the journey part of the move does not become too painful. It is important that the kids are traveling in a car that can stop for breaks, rather than having to rush alongside the removals van.Your children will likely be most worried about the idea that they are moving away from the place and people that they know well. You will find that the result of this can be that they get rather upset, and there is little consoling them. Try to plan in dates for them to see their friends, and work towards having their mates form the old house come up to the new place to see it. The reassurance that their time apart is not too long should help with the transition period after the house relocation.Get the children involved with the move, and you should find that they feel less like the whole process is being done to them, and more like they are a part of what is going on. Having your kids help with packing boxes, sorting their rooms out, and planning where they will put their stuff in the new place will ensure that they are bust and happy about the house removal in the first place.
